Dr. Doss was born and raised in Austin. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Plan II Liberal Arts. While at UT, he had a relatively undistinguished one year career on the Longhorn basketball team!
He attended UT Southwestern Medical School and subsequently remained in Dallas to complete his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Parkland Hospital. In his last year, Dr. Doss was selected by the faculty to serve as Chief Resident for the program.
After finishing his residency, Dr. Doss established his solo private practice in Austin in August of 1977. Since then, he has practiced general Obstetrics and Gynecology, including:
routine and “high risk”prenatal care and delivery for over 8000 pregnancies
prompt referrals to outstanding community physicians when indicated
As part of the local medical community, Dr. Doss:
is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the North American Menopause Society and the Travis County Medical Society
serves in his specialty at the Volunteer Health Clinic for economically disadvantaged Austin women
serves as a member of the Medical Care Evaluation Subcommittee at St. David’s Medical Center and was Chief of that committee from 2003-2007
served as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. David’s from 2007-2009
has been a consultant to the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners
served as a medical consultant and Vice-President of Medical Affairs at a local health care organization

Dr. Doss has been blessed to be married to
Sharon Liston Doss since 1971!

Sharon is a Speech Pathologist in private practice, having also served on the faculty at the University of Texas, where she received her PhD. in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 1988.
Survived raising two daughters!

Amanda Doss Holt, a graduate of Northwestern University with degrees in English and Music Performance, lives in League City, Texas with her husband Greg Holt, an Aerospace Engineer at NASA.

Jessica Liston Owens, a graduate of Wake Forest University in Communications, lives in the DC area with her husband Matt Owens, an attorney with Arnold and Porter.
Dr. Doss is now a Grandpa!

Outside of the office, Dr. Doss:
is a member of First United Methodist Church, where he has taught the college class, enjoys a Monday evening men’s fellowship, the “Prodigal Sons”, serves meals to Austin area homeless through the Loaves and Fishes mobile ministry and is “The Big Bunny” for First Church children each Easter! See Dr. Doss as the bunny!
